Markel Murder Trial

The Markel Murder Trial is underway.  Tallahassee Criminal defense attorney Joe Bodiford will be the legal analyst for WCTV in Tallahassee.  Sigfredo Garcia and Katherine  Magbanua are on trial for the 2014 murder of FSU College of Law professor Dan Markel.  Joe will be on WCTV every day at 4:30pm, providing commentary and analysis of the day’s courtroom events.

Today, Joe discussed the “closed door” jury selection process, how hard it will be to find jurors that can serve for three or four weeks for the Markel Murder Trial, whether it will be be possible to get a jury selected this week, and what the prosecution and defense are looking for in the potential jurors.

Joe Bodiford has been practicing criminal law for 23 years.  He holds a JD (‘95) and LL.M. in Advocacy (‘14) from the Stetson University College of Law. Joe has been an adjunct professor at Stetson Law for 10 years. At Stetson, he teaches trial advocacy, Advanced Advocacy, and Florida Criminal Procedure. During that time, he was also an adjunct 2 years at FSU College of Law.  At FSU, he ran the Trial Team (which won its last 3 national tournaments under his watch) and taught a class on cross examination.

Joe is the author of “Cross Examination in a Nutshell” (West Academic) and “The Florida Criminal Cases Notebook” (James Publishing).  He has been Florida Bar Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law since 2003 (one of only about 375 lawyers in FL).  Joe is also Board Certified in Criminal Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (since 2013 – one of only about 20 lawyers in entire State) – which is recognized by ABA and FL Bar.

In addition to the Markel murder trial, Joe regularly appears on TV, radio, podcasts, and in the news all over the country.  He is available for legal analysis.  Joe is also available for a consultation to help defend you in Florida state and federal courts.
